Cedar Fire & Southern California Fires
2003
The Cedar fire burned 275,833 acres in Cleveland National Forest and San Diego County, California. In support of the Burned Area Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Plan the purpose of this contract was to aerially hydro-mulch approximately 1000 acres of Cleveland National Forest land.
Myrtle Creek Fire, Bonners Ferry Rangers District
Idaho Panhandle National Forest
October, 2003
This project involved truck-delivered hydro-mulching of 135 acres of targets adjacent to forst service roads with an application of 1500 lb/acre of wood fiber mulch, tackifier and seed.
Mt. Zirkel Fire Complex Aerial Straw Mulching
Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest/Thunder Basin National Grassland
August, 2003
This project involved the supply, delivery and aerial application of 2000 lb/acre of certified noxious weed-free straw to target polygons totalling 2030 acres. The time frame to complete this project was 15 days from the notice to proceed, to completion. Elevations of the targets ranged from 9000 to 10,200 feet.
Hayman Fire, Platte River Watershed, Colorado
July, 2002
This project involved the aerial hydro-mulching of 1562 acres of the most severely burned areas of the 137,000 acre Hayman burn area. Treatment included the delivery of 2000 lb/acre of wood fibre mulch, seed and a blend of guar based tackifier and soil specific polymers, blended into a slurry and delivered to the target by helicopter at the prescribed application rate. The elevation of the presribed target polygons ranged from 6500 to 90000 feet with daily temperatures averaging between 40 to 90 degrees.

Public Works and Services Canada
Rayrock Mine site
This site is a former uranium mining operation approximately 160 km northwest of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories) Access is remote and restricted to helicopter or winter roads. Work consisted of stabilization of drainage courses in silty clay capping material, over radioactive tailings.
Alliance Pipeline Project
Work was located along a 1700 km. mainline right-of-way starting near Ft. St. John in northern British Columbia and extending through Alberta and Saskatchewan, until it crosses into the United States. Work involved soil stabilization and dust control on topsoil stripping piles and windrows prior to and during construction and re-vegetation after construction. Drill seeding, straw mulching / crimping and quad seeding were preferred methods, however, on steep slopes, hydroseeding, BFM's or geotextile installation were required.
Vancouver Island Highway Project
Work progressed well on the new four-lane divided highway, with the last grading contracts having been done between Courtenay and Campbell River. PECS was contracted by the Ministry of Highways and Transportation, JJM Construction Group and Graehold Construction Corp. to provide soil stabilization, hydroseeding, and bioengineering on this project.
Intrawest / Blackcomb Whistler Mountain Resort
Pacific Erosion Control Systems has been contracted to help reestablish vegetation on the steep slopes and trails at North America's premier ski and summer resort, due to expansion. The short growing season in the alpine combined with above normal snow packs of recent winters, offered a very small window of opportunity during this past year. After the huge success of the Dave Murray World Cup Downhill seeding program (two years previous) a significant helicopter program was again implemented.

Government of the Yukon
Pacific Erosion Control Systems Ltd. has completed re-vegetation contracts following highway reconstruction of the Alaska Highway. The work included surface preparation, mechanical seeding and fertilizing as well as hydroseeding. Two separate projects, 280 hectares and 114 hectare respectively were completed on time and with good results.
Thompson Creek / Endako Mines
Work consisted of hydroseeding large terraced slopes surrounding two large tailings ponds at the above molybdenum mine. As well, maintenance seeding and fertilizer was applied over previously treated areas that were prone to extreme drifting of the fine tailings material due to severe wind erosion.
Greater Vancouver Regional Water District
Soil and sediment stabilization in three different watersheds that produce water for the 1.8million residents of the Greater Vancouver area.
Forest Companies including MacMillan Bloedel, Weyerhauser, Western Forest Products, Ainsworth Lumber, Pretty's Timber and the Ministry of Forests
These agencies again contracted Pacific Erosion Control Systems during the 1999 season. Projects included revegetation of deactivated roads, landslides, new construction and stream crossings. Methodology ranged from bioengineering along streambanks and watercourses to heli-hydraseeding the inaccessible areas. A "common sense approach" helped to provide cost effective solutions to our valued clients.
