AERIAL HYDROMULCHING PROJECT AFTER SEVERE FIRE DAMAGE
Cedar Fire, Southern California
The Cedar fire burned 275,833 acres in Cleveland National Forest and San Diego Country, California. In support of the Burned Area Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Plan the purpose of this contract was to aerially hydro-mulch approximately 450 acres of Cleveland National Forest land.
The goal of the project was to reduce the risk of further damage to the environment from erosion. Typically the geographic areas selected for treatment are ridges and side-slopes on steep hills, scarp slopes and mountains with slopes of 40 to 80 percent.
The Cedar fire application area ranged from 1 to 4 miles from the staging area. Pacific Erosion Control Systems Ltd. was responsible for supplying the appropriate aircraft, supplying and loading the mulch mixture into the tank and applying in the designated areas.
An understanding of the target areas were ascertained by ground inspections, including studies into location, accessibility, environmental sensitivity and mitigation, staging areas, labor and equipment resources, schedules and timing, weather variables, project logistics and traffic control.
Pacific Erosion Control Systems is intimately familiar with projects of this size and the cooperation, safety and planning required to ensure successful completion.
